Parkbench of Truth

Two performers sit on chairs next to each other (like on a parkbench), facing the audience. They get a suggestion and start a conversation inspired by it.

The performers should be talking and interacting as themselves, not as characters, and they should only talk about things that are truthful to and about themselves.

Purpose

The exercise can be helpful for improvisers who have a hard time staying grounded in scenes, or who are afraid of being “boring” and not funny, unless they make huge, unrealistic choices. Especially for beginners it can be helpful to experience that the way they talk about a seemingly mundane topic can make the audience laugh.
